that my thin priv post has over 350notes, and that almost half are people with thin privilege who don’t understand the difference between thin privilege and having low self esteem? All while they deny the existence of thin privilege, erase fat experiences, and tell me all about how I must hate thin bodies even though never once have I said thin bodies are bad/undeserving of love/etc.

There are ENDLESS resources on google, and countless posts on my blog and hundreds of other blogs about thin privilege; what it is, how to know if you have it (pretty simple) and how to use it for GOOD.

Instead these people scream and shout about how I should shut up and not be heard.

I will never stop. I will not be silenced. STAY PRESSED.

I love how the reaction to “You have thin privilege and we would appreciate you acknowledging that” is almost always “I WAS TEASED FOR MY WEIGHT TOO OMG YOU’RE SAYING IT’S OKAY FOR THAT TO HAPPEN WELL YOU’RE A MEANY FATTIE WHO GETS WHAT SHE DESERVES!!”

It’s always about drawing that line, that someone who points out that privilege is trying to negate their experiences. It becomes an accusation, as if we’ve said “LOL LET’S SHAME THIN BODIES” instead of “No, ALL body-shaming is wrong, but you have resources that fat people don’t to reassure you that the cruelty isn’t deserved.”

Are there people who take it too far? Absolutely. And I’ll be right there decrying the bullshit body-shaming alongside anyone else. But don’t equate the experiences when there are massive differences on a societal scale between them.
